Costa Rica

The country stands apart from its Central American neighbors. It has no army and is also unique for its approach to conservation. More than 27% of the land is protected in one form or other, and more than 14% is within its national park system. The Caribbean Coast is the rainiest rain forest where the jungle meets the sea, sandy beaches interrupted only by mangrove swamps and river deltas. There are no tourist resorts and the wildlife is rarely disturbed. The roads are still rugged; therefore the Caribbean coast is isolated and independent of mainstream Costa Rica.
